Building Your Intuition
Intuition is a power that we all have.
If you are drawn to a caregiving or healing role, you likely have even easier access to your intuition than others.
And…because we are humans living in a logic-driven, rational world, it is easy to lose connection with - or even begin to fear - our deeper knowing.
When we practice intentionally listening to our intuition we strengthen this innate skill, allowing us to walk through our daily lives with greater clarity and ease.
So, how do we practice?
Here are my three steps toward strengthening your intuition everyday:
1.Quiet your mind…: We cannot hear our intuition when we are caught up in thought. Slowing down through a contemplative practice, such as mindfulness, is helpful in settling the mind.
…and get into your body: One way our intuition speaks to us is through our body. When we pay attention to sensations in our body, we begin a conversation with our deeper knowing.
2. Learn to listen: Just like any relationship, understanding and trusting our intuition deepens over time if we take care to get to know it. With practice, we can begin to differentiate what is our deeper knowing talking to us versus a fear-based thought.
3. Assume it was intuition: It is easy for the ego-mind to sweep in and say “a-hah! That makes sense because of [this logical reason].” Instead, practice allowing the possibility that your intuition got it right and let go of rationalizing or labeling something as a “coincidence” or getting “lucky.”
Know that it is ok if it is murky or you “get nothing.” We will receive the right information at the exact moment we are meant to.
And be gentle. Developing our intuition takes time. Practicing in simple ways - like intuiting the perfect parking spot - helps to build our connection everyday.
