Yoga Nidra in Clinical Practice
My older brother passed away unexpectedly when I was 31. Just months before, I had begun my first full-time position as a staff Psychologist for a large hospital system. So I was left to navigate both the demands of a new career and the gut-wrenching sorrow of losing a loved one.
Blessedly, within a year of his passing, my work sent me to a training on iRest, the modern-day version of the ancient meditation practice of Yoga Nidra.
iRest Yoga Nidra was developed and standardized by Clinical Psychologist, Richard Miller, PhD. It has been shown to reduce anxiety, depression, substance abuse, chronic pain, facilitate healing from trauma, and, most importantly in my opinion, connect us to our true sense of self.
While the nature of the mind is to act to protect us from pain at all costs, I learned in this training that true healing requires us to fully and courageously move toward pain.
Pain itself was an invitation to heal.
I also learned what I intuitively knew all along - that I was already ok.
It was my beliefs and habitual urges to avoid pain had been darkening my light of wholeness, health, and well-being already burning inside of me.
Over the past seven years, I have witnessed some of the most profound shifts using Yoga Nidra approaches with my clients, especially when we were really stuck. So much so that Yoga Nidra - combined with Reiki energy healing has become the foundation of my approach to healing.
As more and more clinicians have been reaching out to me for support, as burnout continues to rise and a collective yearning for living a soul-led life intensifies, I have felt a deep resonance to begin offering Yoga Nidra to our community.
Beginning this Friday, I am honored to offer FREE live healing meditation sessions through the meditation app, Insight Timer. Join me as I hold space for all of us to gather together to remember our light, to replenish our resilience, and to cultivate healing energy for our world.
My gift to you.
From myself, and my brother.
